Anxiety (noun): a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks.

Ally (noun): a person or group that provides assistance and support in an ongoing effort, activity, or struggle.

Welcome to Anxiety Ally - my personal blog about my mental health journey with anxiety, depression, and learning to live well with my mental illnesses.

If you are here, you are probably looking for information on how to live with your anxiety, panic attacks, ideas for self-care, or to promote mental health awareness.

Or maybe you're here to learn more to help someone you love who has anxiety.

Living with mental illness is not always easy, and sometimes it is downright terrifying, but armed with the best information and a helpful support system, you can learn how to not just cope and survive, but thrive.

Whether you are having your first panic attack and need some immediate advice or you have been dealing with anxiety for years like me, you have come to the right place.

As someone who was completely lost when I was first diagnosed with an anxiety disorder (and the internet wasn't really a thing yet...), I didn't know where to turn for understanding and compassionate advice.

It was overwhelming sometimes...okay, most of the time!

Now, with a simple search, I can access millions of articles about anxiety, depression, mental health, and even find support groups online.

However, once I had read all of the medical and technical information about my diagnoses, I didn't need yet another article telling me what anxiety was.

What I wanted was to read about others who live with mental illnesses - and not just survive from one day to the next, but who were actually LIVING.

People who, like me, had anxiety or depression and were HAPPY. Maybe not every minute of every day (no one can be), but in general they were satisfied, content, and successful. 

I wanted to read and learn from them about what they were doing (or not doing, as the case may be) to deal with their anxiety.

There are some other great blogs out there, written by people like me who live with mental health concerns on a day-to-day basis. Everyone has their own story and ways of coping.

My wish for this website is that you will feel like you are sitting across from a friend, talking about our latest triumph or challenge in treating our anxiety.
